Я уже довольно давно сюда ничего не писал, так что решил вот появиться в эфире.

Итак, мы всё ещё в Ташкенте, и с нами всё в порядке. На прошлых выходных мы переехали на другую квартиру – побольше и подешевле, в окрестностях телебашни. Сейчас идёт процесс обустройства. Собственно, поэтому я ничего и не писал. Ну и ещё – довольно много времени ушло на разгребание фотографий из Хивы (первый хивинский пост будет очень скоро).

По поводу тех событий, что сейчас происходят в России – о том, что рано или поздно начнёт происходить нечто подобное, я догадывался ещё в январе. Помню, что ещё тогда я намекал хозяйкам нашей первой ташкентской квартиры, что рано или поздно это начнёт происходить (они тогда как раз размышляли над переездом в Россию). Теперь они в России и – думаю, что очень скоро вернутся обратно.

Тем, кто остался в России, хочу пожелать очень много удачи – столько, сколько вы сможете унести, и ещё больше надежды. Всё будет хорошо.

Good to hear that you have a new and better apartment and are okay.

I'm not entirely surprised by Yevgeny Prigozhin's actions. He's been making various complaints for a while. It's the most serious challenge to the Kremlin and Putin in a very long time. I'm not quite sure what the situation is between the two of them. Putin is still talking up the standard Kremlin propaganda rhetoric to justify the invasion of Ukraine. Prigozhin doesn't appear to agree. I guess we wait and see.

Glad you two are okay and have somewhere better to live.

Prigozhin seems to have obtained heavy armour which I was surprised by as I didn't think the military had been supplying him with any. Not just the 'Z' but also 'V' for Wagner.

As you know, I am a military historian and I've seen what happens over the centuries when mercenaries start to think for themselves!

Prigozhin is an old bandit, to whom the laws are not written. Until some time ago, he was supplied much better than the Russian army, hoping that he would carry out all orders from the Kremlin, so they have a lot of interesting things.
So now the country's leadership don't know what to do with the dragon they created themselves. The bad thing is that peaceful people will suffer, whose fate in Russia has not interested anyone lately.

I've been expecting something like this from him for a long time, knowing who he is. And it's funny to watch propaganda now - they haven't been told exactly how to cover these events yet, so they are all at a great confusion right now and act on the principle of "Everything is calm in Baghdad."

I am glad to know that you are now out of the immediate lines of fire.

I have been worried about the prospect of such a conflict as a consequence of Putin's choices elsewhere for some time. Russia deserves far better than this, and I don't think those better options will be available for some time yet.

"Сочувствие, в тишине" seems appropriate at the moment.

Now many believe that this story will have a sequel. A precedent has been created that shows everyone that you can easily walk to Moscow in a brazen way, and no one will stop you. Moreover, I can guess roughly what those who are now in the trenches and risking their lives are thinking about all this, following the orders of people who fled to an unknown direction at the first danger.
