Новая фотокнига от Виктора Стасевича

Вот и вышел в свет ещё один краудфандинговый проект при некотором моём финансовом участии – фотокнига Виктора Стасевича «Лицезрение». Как и следует из её названия, книга содержит в себе почти исключительно портреты – не постановочные, но удачно пойманные и запечатлённые мгновения из чьих-то жизней (практически по Картье-Брессону). В большинстве своём это – случайные прохожие, встречавшиеся автору в ходе его многочисленных путешествий по миру, при этом все они выглядят на удивление живыми и выразительными, а скомпонованы так, что между фотографиями возникает нечто, напоминающее поэтические рифмы.

Словом, едва взяв в руки это новое издание, я почувствовал, что получил несоизмеримо больше, чем потратил.

What a great book. I really like candid black and white photos of people. I'm glad you thought the crowd funding was worth it :)

I like them like French crepes rather than the American ones, and with sugar and lemon juice.

Maslenitsa is almost the only holiday that has been fully preserved in our country since the days of paganism. In the sense of it - seeing off winter, meeting spring, awakening the forces of nature after a winter sleep.
At this time, people usually ran out of all food supplies, but just then the cows began to give milk, and numerous dairy products appeared on everyone's tables: cottage cheese, sour cream, butter ... ("Maslenitsa" is from the word "butter"). Well, the main dish on the festive table was necessarily pancakes - with butter, sour cream or something sweet.
With the advent of Christianity, this holiday successfully fell before Lent - and then Maslenitsa became a good reason to eat properly - in order to reach the end of the Lent on these calories ;) (that's probably why this holiday is so well preserved).
So your pancakes were very timely!

Our history of Pancake Day is pretty much the same as yours and falls on the 1st day of Lent here (shrove Tuesday) which was 1st March. I made sure I had the ingredients to make them :)

Thank you so much for the link to the book. It's terrific, so many different photos and expressions; small children, very old people, different nationalities. I particularly loved the Wailing Wall (Western Wall) in Jerusalem photo.
