P.S. Мы всё ещё в Узбекистане, сегодня ездили в Карши, а два предыдущих дня – в Самарканд. И сегодня узбекский ребёнок поздравил нас с Новым Годом. Пусть он немного ошибся, но – всё равно приятно.

We usually have a boxing day - New Year. In the entire post-Soviet space, it somehow happened that all those traditions that once came from paganism passed from Christmas to the New Year. So Santa Claus (we call him Ded Moroz), and gifts, and all that happens with us on New Year's Eve.

At least there are some celebrations at New Year for you! Ded Moroz, apparently from Slavic mythology with a literal meaning of Father Frost! I love these old traditions and origins.
